How it all started?

A year ago, my husband bought me a Nikon D3300 for my birthday after I nagged for ages. I opened and looked my present thinking… it’s so cool I finally got a proper camera, but what do I do with it? I have this belief that the bigger the camera it is, the better photos you take. Also at that time, I was putting together quarterly e-magazine for Healthy Energy and I really wanted high quality drool worthy photos to make people interested in making my recipes. I YouTubed a few quite videos on the D3300 and off we went, out to lunch and to the park taking photos. What actually happened was, I got so intimidated with all the buttons and put the camera aside for quite a few months.

A year before that, I came across Shellie Froidevaux and Ewen Bell’s Food Photography Workshop and since then I have been dreaming to go and learn how to take beautiful photos of food. At that time we were organising our wedding so I just put the idea aside and concentrate on saving up for the wedding. We got married in October and within a month,  I decided I want to do the course. God bless for a loving husband, I got to do Shellie’s course. Not only that, Jared also bought me a MacBook for this year’s birthday (after another while of nagging!!!). My dream came true and finally got to do it this April.

Those four days spending time with Shellie, Ewen and my new friends Jo, Jo, Nat and Tiff took me from an absolute photography newbie (yup I was embarrassed when I raised the question about the differences between a half frame and a full frame camera) to someone who now understands the differences between the A, S and M button on the camera. From the food that Shellie made and the places they took us, to the laughters, the new friendships and of course photography and food styling skills. I dare to say I’ve found a new passion that helps me reflect my love of food and my love of cooking.. I love everything about that weekend. I don’t know if Shellie and Ewen noticed, I was a little teary when I left.

So glad we get to have a reunion and another magical day at Tamsin’s Table  couple of weekends ago. Can’t wait until we meet up again next time 🙂

Here’s some of my work from that magical weekend, I definitely walked away feeling like a pro!!! And that’s how Capturing Yumminess all started…
